We are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. After multiple weeks of social-distancing and self-quarantine directives, state and national governments are beginning to discuss how to return to a state of normalcy once the COVID-19 pandemic has been contained.

But changing public health policies are not the light at the end of the tunnel. Vaccine development and herd immunity are not the light at the end of the tunnel. Economic growth and job creation are not the light at the end of the tunnel. Reuniting with our church families isn’t even the light at the end of the tunnel.

The light we look toward in the midst of dark times like these is nothing that our civil leaders, medical professionals, or neighbors can do for us. The light we trust is the Light of the World (John 8:12).

This season of the COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult in many ways, but the greatest danger it poses is that it tempts us to fear — to take our eyes off the Good Shepherd. But we must never forget that the God who created this world, the God who directs the wind and calls kings to account, is also the God who holds our lives in His hands.

That is why we put the Daily Prayer Watch together each month. It’s not so you can sympathize with the struggles of our Pioneer Missionaries in the field, though we know you do. It’s because we want you to call on the name of the Lord on their behalf. We believe, with every fiber of our being, that we serve a God who hears the prayers of His people and that those prayers have a direct effect on the spread of the Gospel in the nations.

We share these prayer requests with you because we know that your prayers make a difference.

As you read the requests for this month, you’ll notice how much COVID-19 is mentioned. The pandemic has increased our needs in a lot of ways. But as EHC International President Dick Eastman once wrote, “When it comes to prayer, the measure of assistance one receives is only limited by the size of the cup he holds before God” (James 4:2).

We have a big need today, so let’s fearlessly hold a big cup before the Lord. We can be confident that He will be faithful to fill it. Thank you so much for your fervent prayers.
