From the President’s Desk
Sometimes, in the course of explaining what I do for work, I find myself at a loss for words. I start describing the heart of Every Home’s vision, and then—inevitably—the other person will say something along the lines of: “Sounds amazing! But, what does the ministry actually do?”
I love this ministry, and as its president, I suppose I should be able to give its “elevator pitch.” But the truth is that Every Home is not simple to describe. The breadth and depth of our work can hardly be captured by words, let alone a succinct few of them.
Yet I believe this is one of our strengths. Every Home is a global network, driven by a calling: to carry Christ to everyone, everywhere, in every generation. We are constrained by strategic commitments (we are systematic, for example) and held together by shared values. We are always locally led, and every expression of our ministry is embedded in local culture, language, customs, and needs. All of this means that what we “actually do” is incredibly diverse.
Every Home teams in 168 nations are engaged in ministry that fits under the banner of carrying Christ—from our core, historic activity of home-to-home outreaches, to meeting practical needs like feeding people or offering them a pair of shoes, to hosting public events, to ministry through social media. And that’s just the beginning! Our ministry models capture the categories that emerge when we group together common approaches to carrying Christ, for the sake of sharing what we do more clearly. Each one has detailed systems of accountability, measurability, and integrity. Together, they help us tell the story of redemption unfolding around the world.
