Believers Pray for Peace in Fractured Regions of Mexico
Some regions of Mexico are like their own countries. Cartels and gangs rule through fear and violence.
“Here, we are experiencing one of the most difficult moments in our history,” writes a local believer.
Pastors and priests have been murdered. Believers have had their property stolen. Christian children are prevented from attending school. The gangs and cartels seem to want to prove that they are the only power to be feared and obeyed in these areas, which are often home to the poorest families and indigenous communities.
Stand with believers as they shine as brilliant lights of hope and courage in every broken place.
The situation believers face is reminiscent of the words of Psalm 121: “I lift my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.”
“The growth of crime…and corruption affect children,” our team writes. “For that reason, with God’s help, we have initiated a prayer plan for all congregations [in the region]…We also seek to encourage prayer [particularly] among children. We believe that it is through prayer and the preaching of the gospel that our state…can return to God and that times of peace will come.
“The “How to Pray” materials from Every Home allowed us to train more than 600 brothers and sisters…[At one event] A little girl led a moment of prayer with great passion…. God’s presence was manifested among those present.”
Like Grandma Zindaida in Russia, this young girl in Mexico is growing up in a place wracked by conflict. Many around her are afraid and uncertain about the future. But in the chaos, a small light shines and a bold voice calls out:
“Jesus, come to my neighbors; send me to carry your love.”
