Read: John 15:9-17
Reflect: Jesus loves you.
Hopefully, that truth is as familiar to you as your name, solid and sure to you as gravity. But maybe the words feel a little hollow. Maybe they have been said so much that they’ve begun to feel trite.
Jesus’s love is the center of our faith. But it’s easy for that foundational truth to fade into our theological background. Jesus’s love is simple enough for little children to understand and accept, and yet, we can also spend our whole lives seeking to really know that love. We must continue to be reminded of it and encounter it anew. When was the last time you really thought about what Christ’s love for you means?
In the final hours of his earthly ministry, Jesus tells his disciples that he loves them with the greatest love imaginable and will demonstrate this love by laying down his life.
We know how desperately we need the forgiveness, healing, and restoration Christ gives through his sacrifice. But Jesus lays down his life for us, not only to fix what is broken but as the ultimate declaration of our belovedness. In Jesus’s eyes, we are friends, children of God, incredibly precious, the objects of the greatest imaginable love. We are the ones for whom Jesus—God in the flesh—laid down his life. For us, the Maker of the universe unraveled the order of the world and rose from the dead.
Jesus loves you! You were made by the God who is love to be loved and live in love. And not just you—everyone!
This incredible truth is what spurs on the global ministry of Every Home. At this moment, on earth, there are over 8 billion people whom Jesus loves with the greatest imaginable love—8 billion hearts precious beyond reckoning.
People will often travel great distances to see incredible works of art. We take great pains to protect these things that humans deem precious. How much more should we race to embrace, celebrate, and love what God deems worthy of the greatest imaginable love?
That’s exactly what Jesus says in John 15. He urges his disciples to love each other “as I have loved you.” He calls us to love each other because he loves us.
Our prayer is that you will experience and share the true depths of the greatest love imaginable this Easter.
There’s still time to be part of Easter Outreaches around the world!
